Having travelled extensively to Melbourne, Reza was enamoured by many of the more Georgian styled homes in Toorak. They were appealing in a way that wasn’t too mimicked in that Georgian representation, but still interpreted elements like the symmetry and beautiful Golden Triangle proportion.
This very popular home on a leafy street in one of Perth’s southern prestigious suburbs has a timeless appeal because of its clever design that enables it to be contracted or expanded easily.
Externally, the beautiful proportion is further enhanced with the use of a manor style brick for its base, and render above this. The “full stops” by use of corbels run horizontally to cleverly break the façade up into segments that exaggerate the perfect proportion. Couple this element with the verticality of the windows and therein lies a timeless home that is both thoughtful and sensible.
Internally the home packs a punch with gracious living, allowing the users to experience sensible room sizes that are relevant to a contemporary lifestyle. The human scale is very much taken into account here and the highlight is the central void that allows a walk-around experience upstairs.
Designs such as this requires an understanding of cultural quirks in order for the home to realise its full potential. The way the circulation works, focal points and entry and egress are important to have an impact on a diverse demographic. This house appealed to a multicultural market.
