Reminiscent of a beautiful Singapore colonial mansion, this home delivers a design that has that wow factor from the time you walk up to the porte-cochere structure, to walking into the front doors. Using the Golden Triangle rule of proportion, this home sits with a beautiful balance on the block it sits on. Hugely proportioned inside, one still does not lose the human scale because of the sensitively worked push and pull notion within the rooms internally.
Upon entry, the wow is with the massive voided space along with a large winding staircase that one would expect when walking into the Raffles hotel in Singapore. Central to this is a podiumed open niche to celebrate something sculptural and large like an oversized Ming vase. The vision was to expound on the notion of eclectic, and multicultural elegance, so right down to the parquetry floor, this home sold its audience on that notion.
The master suite was indeed just that…….a huge suite that redefined the celebration of a high end suite, with an ensuite that was never yet seen in the building industry; yet one that has since been replicated in other brands.
The kitchen layout was a first in the industry, and this too has been replicated in many homes since. This was a home that was quietly ground-breaking and its popularity remains as timeless as the façade it offers.
